Memorials of Distinction have over 35 years’ experience in stonemasonry and serving the vibrant areas of North, South, East and West London. Our expert team will craft the perfect memorial gravestone for your treasured loved one. We have a wide range of products available, whether you need a full kerbed memorial, cremation plaque or a bespoke headstone.
When planning for a cremation or burial, you need to choose the location first, as sometimes they will have rules and restrictions on what bespoke memorials, grave ornaments and headstones they allow.
As a truly global city, London is a practical location for friends and family wishing to visit a departed loved one via public transport or car. One of the many reasons that London is so loved is that it offers more green space than many other capital cities — 47% of London is green space. Even in built-up central locations you can find a church garden tucked away down a backstreet.
London’s many cemeteries and crematoriums are the final resting places for many famous and prestigious figures.
There are so many crematoriums and cemeteries across the capital that it can be hard to know where to start looking. London offers so much, from religious or non-religious burials and cremations, to locations near the river, steeped in history or modern memorial gardens.
London’s final resting places include ‘The Magnificent Seven’ — seven large cemeteries in London established in the 19th century. Kensal Green Cemetery and Brompton Cemetery number among these famous sites.
We have collected information on London crematoriums and cemeteries from Google Maps and we have set up the interactive map below to help you. The information is on each pin below — just hover over the pins and you will find what you need. It is worth contacting each location you are interested in to visit and find out more.
Memorials of Distinction believe that purchasing a memorial headstone is such an important decision that it is not suited to an on-line ‘add to my basket’ type of purchase. There are also many variables in the process which will affect your order, for example what is allowed by your particular cemetery and whether your inscription will fit on the memorial you have chosen.
It is possible to order over the phone or by email using the details on our Contact Page where our staff will be able to help and advise you.
We also offer a home visit service which is completely free of charge and obligation. One of our knowledgeable staff will visit you in the comfort and privacy of your home to help you to choose a design, decide on an appropriate wording and answer any other questions you may have.
Any administration or correspondence with local authorities, cemeteries or church authorities is dealt with by Memorials of Distinction on your behalf – you will not have to worry about this aspect of the process.
Our standard terms for payment are as follows:
First Installment
20% Deposit when memorial ordered as above.
Second Installment
75% of balance plus burial ground fee payable when permit received from cemetery or church authority. Obtaining permit takes on average 2-3 weeks from first installment.
Final Installment
Final balance payable on completion (ie. when memorial is in place, approximately 16 weeks after receipt of second installment).
We currently estimate that orders for our standard designs will take approximately 4-5 months to manufacture & deliver.
This estimate begins from the date we have received both the cemetery or church permit and your second instalment rather than from the date you place your order. The process of obtaining a permit is carried out by us on your behalf and is generally straightforward. If you are having a more unusual style or size of memorial it can take longer to clarify the details with the cemetery and obtain permission which will affect the final delivery/fixing date.
We always endeavour to complete your order as quickly as possible but there are some factors over which have have no control, such as shipping and council response times. This means that some orders will take less than 4 or 5 months but others may take more. We will always keep you informed about the progress of your order.
If your order is for a non-standard memorial, it is very likely that the manufacturing & delivery time will be 4-6 months.
